This story is written in Penny's point of view.
My name is Penny @tri_like_penny and everyone tells me that I am the sweetest girl ever and it’s true! I love everyone and everything and have a resilient spirit, positive energy, and infectious smile that seems to make people happy. You may notice that I look a little different and that is because I am a tripawd girl. People always ask what happened to me and if I had always been a Tri. The truth is that I’m a survivor of extreme animal abuse that resulted in three broken legs, a fractured pelvis, being thrown out of a car in a plastic bag, my amputation, and a 11 month recovery with multiple infections and surgeries.
My life changed for the better in December 2020 when I was found along the road and the @thearrowfund brought me into their family. My recovery had a lot of setbacks but the Arrow Fund and my foster family never gave up on me. I am now fully recovered and living my best life with my fosters that turned me into their forever family. I love to explore new places, chase squirrels, and play tug. Although I get along great on 3 legs, my parents had a custom 3d printed harness and prosthesis made for me by @3d.pets so that I could walk on 4 again and take pressure off my other joints and legs.
I am hoping to share my journey of abuse, survival, recovery, special needs, and resilience with the world. I had the opportunity to visit my State Capitol and advocate for stricter animal abuse laws in Kentucky. I got to meet with legislators and share my story in hopes that changes would be made so no other animal has to go through what I went through.
I know there are so many animals and people out there that are survivors of multiple circumstances and that the world may see differently. I may be considered a special needs dog but I am pretty sure I am just special. I don’t know that I am any different and I wish more people would be open to animals like me. My abusers may have broken my body and taken part of me but they didn’t break my spirit or my love for all things in this life. I am not defined by my past or my circumstance. I survived and I know love and I know how to give love. My hope is that you surround yourself with people and things that have a positive impact in your life, people that accept you for who you are, and things that make you smile inside and out. I am perfectly imperfect and so are you!
